It does not completely rely on free space inside the Micro-SD card to shuffle files around and store data temporarily. For this reason, it makes the loading process and general usage of the card incredibly quick and rather reliable.

The manufacturing process and the dimensional controls of the Acekard 2i are pretty decent, although not as perfect as some of the best cards on the market. It is certainly nothing that a human would be able to discern with the naked eye. Occasionally, an Acekard 2i is slightly larger in depth and may have difficulty fitting into a Nintendo DS Lite console, for example, but should have no problems with a DSi. Even so, this problem only appears to be an issue with less than 1% of cards, and if your Acekard is bought from a reputable retailer such as NDS-Gear who tests all their cards beforehand, it is not an issue at all. It’s worth noting that the Acekard 2i is backwards compatible with the regular Nintendo DS as well as the Nintendo DS Lite. It is, however, made to be compatible with Nintendo’s newer consoles, the Nintendo DSi and DSi XL.

The Acekard2i uses a spring mechanism to load the Micro-SD card slot which is occasionally frowned upon by the community as being less reliable than a standard push slot. About 2-3% of Acekard 2i’s will have a small problem with the spring but purchasing the card from any reliable retailer such as NDS-Gear who tests all their cards beforehand, should alleviate any anxiety someone may have about making a purchase.

Overall, the build quality of the Acekard 2i is good, and has an exceptional development team behind it, making it one of the biggest selling Nintendo DSi cards to date.

How to Fix Your Acekard2i Contact Issues Using the Paper Trick

The Acekard2i is the latest flashcart from the Acekard team, and it’s fully functional on all DS models, including the DSi, DSiXL and even Nintendo’s new 3DS when inserted into the DS slot. It is notorious for 2 things; It’s great quality and it’s inferior build. The Acekard2i often causes the Nintendo DS to freeze and crash mid-game because the flashcart’s contacts fail to stay connected to the DS. This would render the Acekard2i useless if it wasn’t for a neat solution conjured up by the good folks over at GBATemp. This solution is what has now become known as ‘The Paper Trick’. Before we get to that, however, it is still possible that if your Acekard2i is freezing, the cause could be something else. So let’s run some diagnostics.

What you will need:

1.) Piece of paper and scissors
2.) Panasonic SD Formatter

Eject your Acekard2i from your Nintendo DS and blow into both the DS slot and the MicroSD slot in your Acekard. There’s a chance that dust could have collected in one of the slots, or both.

If the freezing persists, proceed to reformat your MicroSD using the Panasonic SD Formatter. Refer to my ‘How To Run Homebrew On Your Nintendo DS‘ guide for detailed instructions on how to reformat your MicroSD and a link to download the program.

If the freezing continues , follow the steps below. Note* Disassembly of Acekard2i is not necessary.

Applying The Paper Trick

1.) Cut out a rectangular shaped piece of paper about the seize of your thumb (Business card thick paper recommended) but other types of paper will do.

2.) Flip your Acekard 2i over so that the cart’s sticker faces downwards.

3.) Gently insert the paper beneath the yellow board that’s attached to the contacts.

4.) If the paper already inserted is not thick enough, cut out a few more pieces of paper and slide them under the yellow board (Be careful though. You don’t want to cram too many pieces of paper in there and end up bending the DS’ contacts).

5.) Cut whatever remains exposed of the of the paper, but leave a tad bit protruding for easy removal if need-be.

If, after applying the paper trick you are still experiencing freezing issues, experiment with more or less paper. If you see that your issues are not yet resolved, then the next recommendation would be to purchase a different flashcart, and or MicroSD.
